Urbino & Pesaro instrument mskers

Dear Visitors,
We are setting up an electronic archive (database) covering the production of timepieces and scientific instruments patronized by the dukes of Urbino and Pesaro ("Montefeltro" and "della Rovere") during the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries; this activity continued well into the eighteenth. I only know of a handful of surviving instruments from the Urbino and Pesaro workshops (mainly of the Barocci family); but we know from historical sources of considerable demand for instruments from all the royal courts of Europe. We would be very grateful for any information on surviving pieces (in museums, institutions or private collections) signed or attributed to artisans of Urbino, or even bearing no more than the Latin names of Urbino or Pesaro, "Urbini"or "Urbinas" and "Pisauri" (which is sometimes indicated by a mere "P"). A list of istrument makers from Urbino and Pesaro is available here.

                                                                                     Many thanks to all
                                                                                    Roberto Mantovani
